Labor and Delivery - Labour Partner Tips

  1. Be prepared to wait - Most women labour for hours before they even go to the hospital. Indeed, many couples find it more comfortable to spend the initial stages of labour at home. Besides, many maternity units prefer you to book in when your contractions are regular and close together.

  2. Support your partner - Though there will be lots of experienced people around you to whom you can look for help, you will be your partner's most important support. How can you keep her comfortable? By doing whatever she needs, from running to the cafeteria for a packet of sweets to getting her another drink or talking things through with your midwife.

  3. Know what will/should happen - Get informed as to what will happen your partner, the different circumstances that could arise and your partners options e.g. pain relief etc.
