Mothers Development for month 3 of pregnancy

  • You may be suffering from mood swings, this is very common during pregnancy. It is partly due to the change in hormones in your body and partly due to the very emotional event which is occuring.
  • Tiredness is another common symptom of the first few months of pregnancy, so try and take a rest whenever you can. Your body is working hard to create a new baby.
  • Some good news at last - morning sickness may start to ease off. Things should improve over the next couple of weeks.
  • You may start to notice your veins more especially around the tummy, breasts and legs - this is due to the 40-50% increase in the volume of blood in your body.
  • Most women have only gained a small amount of weight by this time. Some may not have gained any at all.
  • You may have been suffering from headaches. If you eat regularly, drink plenty of fluids, get enough sleep and don't worry too much, you can reduce the occurances of headaches.
  • Certain smells may cause nausea, but your appetite has probably improved as morning sickness becomes less troublesome.
  • Your uterus will shift up slightly, relieving the pressure on your bladder. This should mean less frequent trips to the bathroom.
  • You may also notice the linea nigra (black line), a dark line of pigmentation, creeping up your abdomen.
  • You may feel less tired and you may begin to 'show' for the first time.
  • After this week, the placenta takes over hormone production and the risk of miscarriage drops substantially.
  • This is the start of your second trimester and women often regain energy in this part of their pregnancy.
  • Your morning sickness should have gone and you shouldn't be as tired as you were at the start of the pregnancy. If you are still tired it's an indication that you need REST.
  • Avoid handling raw meat or changing the cat litter box, both can lead to toxoplasmosis, a disease that can cause birth defects. The risks are highest during the second and third trimester, but it?s a very wise idea to hand the chores off to somebody else as soon as you become pregnant. If there's no one else, make sure to wash your hands after changing the cat litter box or handling raw meat.
  • You should be able to hear your baby's heartbeat with a dopler. If not an ultrasound can confirm a beating heart.
  • The early symptoms of pregnancy may have improved but you may now experience some constipation because your bowel muscles are not working as hard as they were and your uterus is pressing on your bowel. Increase the fibre in your diet if constipation becomes a problem.
  • The areolas (the dark area around the nipple) of your breasts may be darkening and growing in diameter as your body prepares for breastfeeding (whether you intend to or not|).
  • Your uterus is about the size of a grapefruit.
