Parenting tips for enjoying the summer
Summertime means more outdoor activities (swimming, camping, bike riding, etc…) for most kids. For all parents, this means being extra vigilant to keep your child safe and healthy.Eczema
Eczema or atopic dermatitis is sometimes worse in the summer, when kids are swimming and sweating and the pollen count is higher. Learn to keep your child's eczema under control during the summertime and consult with your doctor if their symptoms are worse in summer.Water Safety
Teach your child to swim, but remember that younger children shouldn't be left unsupervised around water even if they know how to swim.Always wear an approved life jacket when on a lake, river or ocean while boating, water skiing, jet skiing or tubing.
Talk to your children and warn them about playing in canals or other fast moving water.
Don't allow running or rough play around the water, especially when there are younger children around
Sun Protection
Using sun protection or sun block is very important especially with very young children. Avoid some common mistakes made by parents who apply sun protection but do not realise the situations where it may notApply enough protection to properly protect your child. Follow the manufacturers guidelines for applying and re-applying sun block.
Re-apply the protection when your child has been playing in water.
Appply the protection BEFORE your children start playing in the sun not after.
