November Birth Stone

November's birth stone is the Citrine, Citrine is the modern November birthstone, the Planetary stone for Virgo, and the accepted gem for the 13th and 17th wedding anniversaries.

Citrine is a variety of quartz ranging in colors of yellow, yellow-brown, orange, dark orange-brown, reddish-brown. Citrine crystals can form together with amethyst or smoky quartz to form ametrine a bi-colored quartz.

Natural citrine is a pale yellow to orange, and is much lighter than the heat-treated material, which is dark orange-brown to reddish-brown. Most citrine on the market today is actually heat-treated amethyst because natural citrine is found only in large quartz deposits in small amounts. All heat-treated material has a red tint, whereas the natural specimens do not.
