How do you choose a meaningful name
Here are a few guidelines which could help you pick the perfect name for your baby.
Think of the things you like. It could be a place, a thing or another person. Play around with that name and try out variations e.g. If you like Rose petals then maybe Rosie might appeal to you.
Consider combining names to create your own unique baby name. If you can't combine it, play around with the spelling, shorten it or try using the name in a different language.
Short names with a short vowel sound more masculine and are more suitable for boys e.g. Jack, Max
Names with longer vowel sounds are more feminine and suit girls e.g. Joan
If you get a name that you are not completely happy with, try the equivalent to that name in different languages e.g. The Irish for John is Sean.
Try out the name before you decide. Say it out loud, to see if it sounds good. Try saying it over a few days, because it can take some time for you to get used to it. Asking friends and family can help, but it can also hinder.
Try to avoid the 'I knew a ...... and I didn't like him'. Don't base the decision on the fact that you knew someone with that name and you didn't like them very much.
