Pregnancy Complications
Placenta previa is not usually a problem in early pregnancy. If it continues into later pregnancy, it can cause bleeding, which may require you to deliver early and can lead to other complications.Complete previa is where the mouth of the uterus, is completely covered. Partial previa where just a portion of the cervix is covered by the placenta. Previa is bad because it can cause the following complications for the baby
- Problems for the baby, secondary to acute blood loss
- Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) due to poor placental perfusion
- Increased incidence of congenital anomalies
Recovery
The treatment for Placenta Previa is usually rest - bed rest, usually in hospital. If the condition is not controlled, the baby is usually delivered early by C-Section.Low lying placenta may be indicated if the mother experiences painless bleeding as the placenta pulls away from the stretching lower portion of the uterus. An estimated 7% to 30% of women with low-lying placentas don't bleed at all before delivery. The bleeding is usually bright red, not associated with significant abdominal pain or tenderness, and spontaneous in onset, though it can also be triggered by coughing, straining, or sexual intercourse. It can be light or heavy, and often stops and starts later. Because the placenta is blocking their way, fetuses with low lying placentas do not usually drop into the pelvis in preparation for delivery
