What Will My Baby Look Like

A Baby appearance is defined by its genes, which it receives from its parents. So, if you learn about the parental genes, it can give you some percentages as to what a baby will look like.

It can be estimated what your baby will look like, what height it will be, what hair color and eye color it will have, but it can't be 100% guaranteed. Also, hair and skin are both traits that involve a huge number of genes making it very complex to compute. Here iis an example for eye color.

Human eye color is governed by three genes, EYCL1 (gey), EYCL2 (bey1), and EYCL3 (bey2)...
The 'gey' locus determines green-blue color (green is dominant over blue).
'bey1' is the central brown locus,
and 'bey2' determines brown-blue color (brown dominant over blue).
Not much is known about the function of 'bey1', so I'll describe the probability in terms of the 'gey' and 'bey2' loci only...

Assuming that the genotypes are as follows:
Your father: bey2,Bb;gey,?g
Your mother: bey2,Bb;gey,GG
You: bey2,bb;gey,Gg
Husband's father: bey2,Bb;gey,?g
Husband's mother: bey2,Bb;gey,?(g)
Husband: bey2,bb;gey,Gg

So, if we cross you and your husband:
bey2,bb;gey,Gg x bey2,bb;gey,Gg

We will get the following distribution:
bey2,bb;gey,GG 4
bey2,bb;gey,Gg 8
bey2,bb;gey,gg 4

Therefore, there is a 25% chance that your child will have green eyes, a 50% that she will have hazel eyes, and a 25% chance that she will have blue eyes.. If the genotypes are correct, there is no chance your child will have brown eyes.

As you can see its a complex equation, and its even more complex for hair color. So, finding out how will my baby look like is not easy, but once you have the baby, its going to be exciting to see for yourself! There are other ways to research what your baby will look like. Some people like to have a photo expert merge the faces of the mom and dad in a funny way to try and get a sample of what the baby will look like.
