Parents and children generally have similar eye color, hair texture, height and other characteristics because children inherit genes that control specific characteristics from their parents. When we talk about genes being inherited from one generation to the next, we are really talking about how the gene-carrying chromosomes behave during meiosis and fertilization. For example, the behavior of the mother's and father's chromosomes during meiosis and fertilization explains why each cell in a baby's body has two copies of each gene, one copy from his or her mother and one copy from his or her father. But if a baby receives two copies of a chromosome, which one takes priority. In other words, if your baby gets a blue eye color chromosome from you and a brown eye color chromosome from your partner, what eye color will your baby have? It is not just as simple as saying one eye color is dominant over another although that is partly true. There are two major genes and other minor ones that account for the tremendous variation of human eye color. The list of eye colors in order of domination is shown below

Brown
Hazel
Amber
Green
Blue
Gray
Violet

Graded Eye Colors

Eye colors are basically a grad of 3 major colors The 3 true colors in the eyes that determine the outward appearance; brown, yellow, and gray. How much of each color you have determines the appearance of the eye color. The color your eyes turn depends on how much of these colors are present. For example, green eyes have a lot of yellow and some brown, making them appear green. Blue eyes have a little yellow and little to no brown, making them appear blue
