These activities are simple and they can be easily setup in the home, they are a great source of learning for your toddler

Empty & Fill

Toddlers love emptying and re-filling objects. Play sand is an ideal material to use. If you have a sand pit, add some empty buckets and your child will have hours of fun. Sand can be a bit messy for indoors, but you can use anything. Try a bucket or jar and put beans or pebbles into it. Make sure that the items you use are not so small that your child could choke on them.

Cause & Effect

Children love to see a response for their action - cause and effect keep them amused for ages. Toys that respond to touch with visual or audio responses are ideal.

Bubbles

Toddlers and children love playing with bubbles.

Peek-A-Boo

Even older toddlers still enjoy a game of Peek a Boo. Place your hands on your face and say "(child's name) where are you?" Encourage the older children to pull your hands away from your face. They really like to have control over the game. Let them put your hands over your face and pull them away

Toys

Children prefer action toys that produce movement or sounds by the child's own efforts
  • toddler toys need not he highly detailed but should be realistic looking.
  • toys should be lightweight for easy lifting and carrying
  • bright colors preferred.
In play, child always like to be on the move - large muscle activities such as running, climbing dominate over small muscle activities such as exploring objects constructing.

Note: Toys should meet safety regulations for age

  • sturdy, unbreakable, not likely to break into small pieces and strong enough for child to stand on or in.
  • nontoxic materials.
  • no sharp points or edges.
  • too large to be lodged in windpipe, ears, nostrils.
  • no detachable small pans.
  • no parts that could pinch or entrap fingers, toes, hair.
  • not put together with easily exposed straight pins, sham wires, nails.
  • no electrical parts, unless supervised by adult.
